How does the model work?
The model works by downscaling exogenous expectations on population and built-up land to the grid level. This is done repeatedly for each decade, in which the model first establishes suitabilities based on previous results; then allocates additional built-up land; then population change; then assesses the resulting degrees of urbanisation. The results from allocation then inform suitabilities for the next decade. The process is shown graphically in the graph at the bottom.
